I spend many happy hours in my studio, a real oasis for me. I am loving working large. I tack the very big sheets of canvas that I cut from my roll, right on the boards I hung for that purpose. The physicality of using big brushes and really swinging my arms around just adds to my sessions. I have to climb up and down on an ice chest to reach the top. Pavoratti sings on my lPod and sometimes he invites me to sing along.
We got a new Pastor at our parish, Father Bill Lago, and he taught us how to meditate using St. Ignatious Loyolas methods.
After the 2nd session my whole spirit transformed.
FEMA began providing a town workshop meeting to form vision committees to restore our town from Hurricane Sandy. I should not use the word restore because it never did live up to its potential. It's more like transform it to its potential.
We broke up into committees (I joined the capacity committee). It was led by a very talented young urban planner Chris Kok. He is enthusiastic and patient. The plans for a town arts council evolved from 6 weeks of intense work. When it came time for the townspeople to vote on the projects they want to support the WATERFRONT PROMOTION, MARITIME HISTORY AND THE ARTS was their first choice. Just maybe we can emerge from all this devastation better than before.
The work is all before us now but we have made choices about where to put our focus.
